Its not just gay bars in California. My daughter said a pub in the UK scanned her driving license when checking her age. A supermarket chain just announced they are rolling out face recognition cameras. Its profitable and there will be endless "think of the children" type arguments in favour.

Those self checkout kiosks you see at places like McDonalds have facial recognition cameras behind the screen and they’ve been putting in facial recognition at drive thrus for targeted promotions tailored to each person.

For what it's worth most gay bars, massage parlors and brothels near military installations have been recorded since the at least the 1970's. The purpose was to identify military personnel at risk of being compromised. None of that information was shared outside of the military.

"Most"? Recorded how? Persistent surveillance? I don't buy it.
