That wasn't my point at all. My point was, there are the application/validation systems and manufacturing already set up for driver's licenses. Anybody can apply for a provisional driver's license. That provisional driver's license is an acceptable form of photo id that shows your age,address etc already. So there is no need for an alternative/new system. If they want a "id" version of the provisional driver's licens…

I somehow completely missed out the part about provisional drivers license when I first read it. I now understand what you meant.

But last part of my reply was more specially on Digital ID. Which current system does not help or hasn't been implemented.

Digital ID, isn't just about "identification" in a pub, it's about interconnecting departments. Which as they stand just barely talk to each other.

Not everybody can get a driving license. A provisional isn't "easy" in the slightest, especially for a lot of the population.

The world has changed since the 2000s. We already have many digital IDs. It's a no brainer to consolidate them.

Also the UK gov is notorious for departments not having an ability to correlate records, because they databases just don't align. Meaning every single process takes weeks to complete with actual human intervention.

Digital ID was a bridge for all of that

Jon Harvey seems pretty educated as per a political quiz interview. My main objection would be he doesn't necessarily have public administration/organizational management skills/experience.
