No it wasn't. This was the trial judge deciding to not reduce it. $43 million in compensatory damages is unusually high for a wrongful death.

#17This case will make settlement amounts higher, which is the main thing car companies care about when making decisions about driving features/marketing. With Robotaxi it will get even higher as it will be clear 100% the company's fault.

$43 millon does not seem spectacularly high compensation for killing someone at the age of 22.
