While dealers definitely want and push you to use their financing, you are NEVER required to do so. I have many times brought a cashier's check to the dealer and told them they can take the amount I'm offering or leave it and I'll go to the next dealer in town that has the same exact car--showing them the listing. I have only been turned down a handful of times w/this method. Most seemed happy to know there was less…

As someone who has only bought two cars in their adult life and doesn't foresee buying more than two or three more before I die, "a handful of times" seems like a lot.
