Just don't submit your data to everyone who asks for it. A lot of website ask for your phone number and date of birth for no reason whatsoever.

Like to microsoft.

- Buy HALO on steam

- Yeah, just make new a MS account, you can use temporary email and you're ready to go.

- Play some time (oops, more than two hours, you can't return it now).

- Next time you run, "We blocked your account due to strange activity, input phone number to unblock".

Now without giving up your phone number, you can't continue to play the game you bought.

This happened to me with Minecraft. It was amazing what a pain in the ass they made it to give them some money and then the gaslighting and hassle I had to endure to get what I paid for.

I only play that game single player.

I hate this article. There are so many obvious and glaring problems with the current US administration, there is no reason to reach for these kinds of straws.

With the amount of leaked and hacked data out there - almost everyone who is active on the internet is in one of these dumps. This is not evidence of any wrongdoing on their part.

1Password makes this fairly easy. I’m sure other tools can too. But if you’ve got a tool, you just don’t need to think about it. As long as 1Password doesn’t get LastPass’d - although their architecture should prevent that.

I think that the point is that it is quite bad to use your personal phone and personal chat app for discussing classified subjects, and that you can randomly add random people to these conversations by accident. But it is even worse when any hostile actor like a foreign country can have all your personal info like phone number that easily.
