Looking at what it costs to put a politician into your back pocket, I would assume that it costs way less than a trillion dollars to buy a country, let alone a state. 10-20 billion should suffice.
Also I hear our politicians come very cheap.

GDP is 4 trillion. It's going to take at least that to convince Musk to sell it. He's not in it to lose money.

Great timing, go for them them just after they've suffered a horrible catastrophe. Still, the economy of California is remains like 8x larger than that of Denmark. Make an offer I guess, it can't hurt.

They could be part of the "globalist plot to wage economic warfare and deindustrialize the United States" that Alex Jones claims the California fires were part of, and that Elon Musk said is true.

The trouble is the secession would have to be cities versus rural areas in the United States. There's no good State map
