We did, but it's mostly shootings now, as far I understand. The grenade and bomb attacks usually targeted competing criminals, with of course, some additional casualties, and are continuing, but people seem to have gotten accustomed to the news of them.
I wonder why these things started escalating just now. Why not a year ago? 5 years ago? Why not 13 years from now? Quite curious.

I think the relationship between Holland and crime is based upon its central position within western Europe, its dominance of shipping (which provides a huge inter and intracontinental logistics industry in which to hide illicit activities), and unwanted criminal outgrowths of its historically progressive and leading culture of drug acceptance.
Somewhat amusingly, yet probably not causative in any way, in much the same way that Australia is often slammed jokingly as a country founded by criminals, there are aspects of truth to Holland (and Venice) being comprised in the past of social marginalia.
But actually I'm really curious how the transit modes of a country impact its crime.
