Bezos has to quintuple his net worth, that other guy just needs to triple his (more or less), so I'm going with followers.

I look at it as market size though. Instagram has a billion active monthly users and it's probably peaked now that they're declaring war on TikTok.

On the other hand, Amazon is only in a few countries so they have plenty of room to grow or acquire.

Network effects are breaking down. Reeds Law and Metcalfe law are already showing signs they don't hold for various reasons such as the Dunbar number, error rates in the 6 inch chimp brain we have increasing from info overload etc. Therefore I'd say the era of non linear scaling taking advantage of network effects has already peaked. On the other hand, if we keep inflating the currency the way we have been in recent years (2008 onwards), Bezos could be worth $1T just by the dollar having less value.

I would go with the cash, as unless someone is seriously gaming the system about 1 in 8 human beings on the planet would have to create an account and follow the celebrity for them to get 1 billion followers assuming only real accounts counted.

Even a twitter verified Jesus Christ, son of the one true God would have a somewhat difficult time drumming up 1 billion twitter followers, and he has at least that many followers in real life.
