I had to cut down a dying ash tree ten years ago, another victim of the Emerald Ash Borer. I'd forgotten the wonderful smell of the wood as beautifully described here.
Ash is one of my favorite woods to work because of the smell! And the straight grain, and the pores, which are much smaller than e.g. white oak, and the color. It's interesting to read the description of the smell of green ash. I mostly get white ash, and I think of the smell as being similar to really dark chocolate or red wine.
