I didn't read the whole paper to find if they have ruled out aging world population. But, I believe there is a decline in sexual desire in general, especially in young adults. There can be so much correlation in so many areas, the title is just too broad.

The title of the paper is "Determinants of female sexual orgasms" and it is a study done in Finland. I doubt you even clicked on the link before making a comment. I doubt literally anyone here is actually going to read it before making a comment, tbh.

I see this has been downvoted, I'm not sure why, does anyone have counter-evidence to the thesis here or something that debunks it? I'm far from being pro-socialism myself, but if the contents of the article are true, then it seems we could definitely glean useful information and principles from it. Just want more clarification on why it would be downvoted or additional information that would help substantiate the id…

From the article:

"And so there’s this way in which contemporary profits are supported by free labor that women provide in the home. And this free labor actually ends up trapping women in dependent relationships, largely with men, and that means, ultimately, that women get stuck because they have all these care responsibilities for which they are not paid. They are stuck in the home, generally financially dependent on a partner or spouse, and that unfortunately leads to people being in unhealthy or abusive or unhappy relationships."

I've lived in a few different Western countries, mostly very developed, and most of what I have seen is women working and men sharing many responsibilities. So this seems to me like a terrible starting point to build that thesis upon.

You can also add declining sperm quality and sperm count. No idea if they both have the same root cause.. First thing coming to mind is stress and bla bla. But i dont think it's the real cause. My gut says plastic..

Come on, your gut can do better! Micro-plastics, insecticides, lack of physical activity, water and air pollution, socioeconomically uncertainty, declining nutritional values, processed foods, depression, electromagnetic energy absorption, stress factors, insomnia, hormone pollution in drinking water systems, drug-waste, contraception usage, masturbation, heavy metal build-up in marine life... Don't underestimate the creativity of the gut feel!

Earlier quoted context omitted.

> My gut says plastic A sedentary lifestyle leads to a reduction of testosterone. Simple as that.

It very well might be a combination of both.

In the general population? Lifestyle seems to explain it sufficiently, when one takes account of the evidence.

I haven't read the whole paper, but in looking for keywords and skimming through the determinants section, I don't see anywhere that the researchers have taken in to account the partner's gender. Most of the time, it's "partner" (gender indeterminate), but whenever it is mentioned, the gender is always male.

Has this paper acknowledged same-sex relationships, at all?

(Apologies for the sex/gender conflation)

My gut says modern lifestyle is detrimental to the existence of mankind.

The article, despite being quite long, didn't provide any evidence for the thesis aside from a single survey of East/West Germany.

Perhaps the book itself has some actual data?

It should have been called "Determinants of female sexual orgasms in Finland" then, and the same title should have been used here as well.

Why comment at all?

I have a knee jerk negative reaction to the title rather then the content. "couples who share housework or share child care responsibilities more equally tend to have more sex" - sure, that sounds great. Safety net in society helps in many ways too. They sure correlate with socialist environment. But "Did women have better sex under socialism?" is such a BuzzFeed title that I expect a silly listicle rather than serious research.

> One challenge for future studies is to understand why women value their partner’s orgasms more than their own. I do not find this surprising. Most of my friends and I also value the other person‘s orgasm over our own, regardless of gender.

Yeah, especially from a guy perspective its so easy to have your own orgasm that literally the only other thing you have to do in sex is care for the girl orgasm.

The real problem is that most people have too much ego to go read on the internet how to give good orgasms
