99% of the people being vilified as “alt-right”, “right wing extremists”, “militias”, etc. are fringe libertarians. If there were actual voter intimidation I would fully expect that they be on your side.

In response to your original question, if you feel the need, I’d take a multi-pronged approach.

Audio is going to be easier to capture than video, and your phone is likely more than suitable. I’d get and test one of the many audio recording apps out there that stream to a remote server, so if your phone is lost you still have a copy of the data.

I’d also have a stand-alone audio recording device, like is/was commonly used to record lectures. They’re available that use microcasettes often in thrift stores, and are inexpensive online that use flash memory. Bonus points for it being a decent “red herring” for someone looking to uncover recording devices on you to fixate on and stop a search.

For video, there are tons of “spy cameras” on Amazon. The ones in the form of a pen can be clipped on your pocket and be relatively inconspicuous. I’m not aware of any that can stream to the cloud through your phone, though.

I really can't wait until US election season is over. You've all gone absolutely insane.

Maybe so, but please don't post unsubstantive comments to HN.

As an American and a Democrat who lives in Texas, I think I’m one of the people who would be more likely to be suppressed at the polls.

So, in my personal opinion, the person you (dang) are responding to is not going overboard.
