I don't know anything about home robots, but to me this seems to be the first design that is practical to bring to consumers. Not 2 human arms (or even legs) and some expensive face, but instead just a Roomba-ish base, telescope arm with grabber that moves up and down, camera on top.

That seems pretty cheap, tbh.
Having worked with robotics in mfg, part of the cost is stiffness. A stiff arm and mounts means repeatable actions.
In the video this thing was flexing all over the place. It’s cool, no doubt. But it seems a well placed LEGO could nearly shut it down.
I’m not seeing 18k as “cheap” in any sense here. Maybe I just don’t understand the business model or what goes into this.
