They are a simple means of physical payment from your Bitcoin account. The card uses Bitcoins as it's native currency but also enables compliance with non-bitcoin vendors through a built-in currency exchange.

Basically thanks to the Bitcoin credit card you can already today close all conventional bank accounts and live solely through the Bitcoin account.
