HDDs are for colder storage that’s not yet cold enough for tape, but infrequently read and written. It takes more than a day to fill one.

I know. But SMRs are dog slow. I installed Win 10 on one 1TB Seagate SMR which came with an old laptop with the 1st generation Ryzen. Tranfer rate was about 150 kbs. It needed 5 minutes to start.
Writes are buffered into CMR zones and then moved to SMR when the firmware decides it’s time.
