I'm not American (Canadian), but I've always found it peculiar how organizations in the US will openly back certain candidates in elections. Wouldn't this be considered taboo by bringing politics into the workplace?

I'm a totally moderate extreme left winger, but I think this is a big mistake. Science has always been about logic and experimental proof, not political gamesmanship. Yeah, I know politics is part of everything, but I think this hurts the cause for science in a big way. Better to be neutral.

At some point it's dangerous and immoral to stay neutral, particularly for those dealing with hard facts and science.

The desire for "balance" just meets a hard end when one political party wants to openly destroy and deny science.

Large organizations staying neutral is why y'all got into this mess in the first place. Climate change denialism should have been met with hard resistance when it first appeared.

Taking a stand now is the bare minimum. Assuming the GOP wins, it's game over for a lot of science in the US - anything that goes against Big Oil is first on the chopping block. Always remember Sharpiegate [1], that was just an indication of what will come.

"Bringing politics" may typically be "expressing liking"; there also exists an "expressing judgement, based on available elements, of which candidates seem to be progressive towards a cause".
