I really do think we've reached the interesting part of human history, so to speak.
When I asked Santa for a robot for Christmas as the very first thing I ever asked him for in 199X, I was mildly disappointed with the nonsentient RC toy I got.
If I'd somehow been given a GPT-powered toy back then, I would have simply felt that Santa had properly understood and executed my request.
