There's currently more fanfic on AO3 for Goncharov (539 stories) than the James Cameron Avatar movie (333 stories).

Even the non-existent Goncharov (what a great name!) has better optics in my head than Avatar which I remember being an unspectacular bore fest.

This reminds me of the search for a supposedly lost anime from '80s titled Saki Sanobashi/Go for a Punch. Even though there's a good chance it never existed, there has been quite a bit of fanfiction and even an attempt make/remake an actual anime OVA/movie/series of their own.

I'm pretty sure that snl papyrus avatar skit is better than the movie Avatar
