Move fast and don't give a shit about your customers.

What do you propose Tesla do instead?

Related quote from op’s link:

“ That they’re delivering partial products intentionally and not informing buyers prior to payment nearly feels like fraud. I guess it is actually. All they need to do is inform buyers before the sign and make clear the mitigation strategy. But wouldn’t expect Tesla to do that unfortunately. They’re going to push on this until they get hit with a class action. They lied to my face about several issues when I bought my car as well. My wife was ready to walk when we found out. Ugh.”

I guess everyone is proposing they don’t defraud their customers.

At least leave a note? Something like, "sorry, we didn't have enough chips" instead of just playing dumb and letting customers find that out the hard way when they try to plug in their phones?

I’d rather receive my vehicle sooner and have a free retrofit than wait another x months for a charging chip

Would you not rather have the choice? Or at least be informed upon delivery instead of having to find it out yourself?

The other two people who responded to you have covered the gist of it. This is deceitful behavior. A customer should be informed when taking delivery of the vehicle at the latest and have a choice in rejecting the delivery. Anything else reeks of dubious ethics.

This is not a simple mistake. In a properly run company, the amount of people who had to sign off on a change like this is not low and a good portion of them would have to wilfully decide that not informing the customers until after delivery was the best strategic decision.

A properly run company like GM or Ford? Tesla is a unique company and offers a unique products. It is totally reasonable if you don't want to buy one, but for many of us, it is the best deal and the best car we have ever owned.

What are you talking about? The car left the factory faulty as it is, there is no excuse, chip shortages or not. There is no way I am buying a Tesla now or in the future.
