Tesla is 22X from the time of this Harvard article. Another reason why ‘doers’ > MBA’s

Tesla has plenty of MBAs, I'm sure. The trick is that MBAs > writers who don't even pretend to do research.

Right near the top is this: "Consider a Tesla salesperson tasked with selling all three models." Tesla doesn't need salespeople. Tesla sells its cars online. You go to tesla.com and click "order". Tesla has "galleries", but those aren't sales people. When you want to buy a car, they take you to a kiosk in the back running the same web site.

Lots of other things are laughably wrong in retrospect, like his conviction that all of the other car companies would turn on a dime to start producing electric vehicles. He doesn't appear to know anything about either those companies or the technology that's specific to EVs.

But while that's clearly wrong in retrospect, it's the line about the sales people that really sticks in my craw. It wasn't just a prediction; it was false on the face of it at the time, and readily verifiable. He wouldn't have to be inside the company culture to know it. He could have just opened up their web site.

Ready to eat my words, but I don't think Tesla will even attempt to enter the lower-end of the market. They do well in the mid-range to high-end. If Tesla even tries to enter the lower-end it will ruin their brand. They won't be the "think different" car anymore. Then all bets are off and they would need to compete with the likes of Toyota and VW. I don't think they want that.

I think Tesla will be a very different company , it will be like the "Android OS" for differnt manufacturers down the line,

I believe its more of a "data" "Autonomy" "Platform" play than a car manufacturing business.

I agree, but I feel sad when such an article comes out from a reputed institution like Harvard.

Probably the writing domain is broken . There is no accountability or "skin in the game" and they don't put money where their mouth is.
