Hi HN,

STPM is the national exam in Malaysia students take before going to university.

Pengajian Am is the only compulsory subject in STPM, and it's also one of the harder ones because it's a general knowledge paper but in the Malay language. A lot of STPM students struggle with Malay specifically because the proportion of Chinese students taking STPM vs SPM goes up significantly (lots of Chinese students don't have access to other options like Matriculations or Asasi or MARA scholarships).

It's also difficult generally because STPM programs aren't very well funded. It's not uncommon for teachers to be absent for 6 months (and the students have to study everything on their own). Textbook supply is also shrinking because there's just no demand for it (print has stopped for some subjects like Chemistry).

I built PengajianAm.com to help students learn Pengajian Am in a more structured way. I'm probably crazy to even be working on this given what I've just told you, but PG said to work on problems you have, and this was definitely a problem I've had before.

If you happen to be a high-ranking Malaysian official reading this, I'd love to talk about how the program can be better structured because all things considered I still think it's the best option for most students in Malaysia.
