NFTs are basically a marketplace to trade "ownership" of URL-links. And a lot of people can't seem to tell me what "ownership" really means in this context (aside from I paid X money for it).

It's not about ownership of the URL. It's about ownership of the token itself - the interesting thing is who issued it, how it got to you. Think downloading photocopied Mona Lisa VS obtaining the original directly from Leonardo VS buying the original from a second party. Liquidity position "Silly JPEG"? Domain name "Silly JPEG"? Doesn't work. NFTs don't necessarily have off chain URL-links (Uniswap v3 positions). Most of the interesting uses of NFTs aren't about an image.
