I think a lot of the people in positions of power in the AI industry think that AGI/superintelligence will solve the climate crisis, aging, scarcity, and many other tough problems by doing novel science. I hope they are correct.

Too late the edit my comment: I just thought more about the price of running openclaw.ai... we are so effed, aren't we. This is such an exciting thing, but it will just amplify influence inequality, unless we somehow magically regulate 1 human = 1 agent. Even then, which agent has the most guaranteed token throughput? Yet again, I get excited about tech and then realize that it is not going to solve any societal prob…

What our modern western culture views as inequality, evolutionary mechanics views as fat to be trimmed.

Permissionless doesn't mean much if it's not anonymous (central authority wants to stop you from doing x; sees you doing x with non-anonymous coin, punishes you). I understand the appeal of anonymous currencies like Monero (hence why they are banned from exchanges), but beyond that I don't see much use for crypto

Literally described the use case - a medium of exchange between agentic entities at massive global scale

The burden of proof lies on whoever wants to convince someone else of something. in this case the guy that wants to convince people it likely is not real.

The original poster stated

The soul is "a concept that's not proven yet." It's unproven because there's no convincing evidence for the proposition. By definition, in the absence of convincing evidence, the null hypothesis of any proposition is presumed to be more likely. The presumed likelihood of the null hypothesis is not a positive assertion which creates a burden of proof. It's the presumed default state of all possible propositions - even those yet to be imagined.

In other words, pointing out 'absence of evidence' is not asserting 'evidence of absence'. See: Russell's Teapot and Sagan's Dragon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell%27s_teapot)

AIs will seek to participate in the economy directly, manipulating markets in ways only AIs can. Ais will spawn AIs/agents that work on the behalf of…

I don’t know if they’re willing to “yoke themselves”. It appears they are - and if so, it’s important to keep it decentralized and ensure others can benefit, not just the first and wealthiest.

I don’t know what will happen, though I have ideas. I’m curious what hooking up my own with access to a (copy of) my dev environment and directing it to optimize by talking with other bots might result in.

But the fact that this is unique and new is sufficient justification in my opinion. AI is a transformative technology, and we should be focused on spending our energy and resources on improving and understanding it as fully as possible, as quickly as possible.

In that light, this is easily justified.

See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46828496 for more.

Feels like a somewhat arbitrary decision.. other thread was #1 on hn and had a lot more points. Is the goal to give the author his due karma? Misattribution happens all the time and it's ok. If anything would've merged this the other way.

It was a bit of an experiment but yes I wanted schlichtm to get the credit, and I also think it makes it more interesting that it was a Show HN.
