Nobody is building anything worthwhile with these things. Basically every piece of software being built is now being built, in some part, with AI, so that is patently false. Nobody who is building anything worthwhile is hooking their LLM up to moltbook, perhaps.

> Basically every piece of software being built is now being built, in some part, with AI, so that is patently false. Yep, just like a few years ago, all fintech being built was being built on top of crypto and NFTs. This is clearly the future and absolutely NOT a bubble.

I mean... even if you're an LLM skeptic, they are already default tools in a software engineer's toolbox, so at a minimum software engineering will have been transformed, even if AI enthusiasm cools.

The fact to that there is so much value already being derived is a pretty big difference from crypto which never generated any value at all.

We merged the thread Moltbook - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46820360 into this one because it was a Show HN posted by the author - originally a couple days ago, but I've reupped it to approximately the same place the other thread was on the front page. See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46828496 for more.

Feels like a somewhat arbitrary decision.. other thread was #1 on hn and had a lot more points. Is the goal to give the author his due karma? Misattribution happens all the time and it's ok. If anything would've merged this the other way.

Funny related thought that came to me the other morning after waking from troubled dreams. We're almost at the point where, if all human beings died today, we could still have a community of intelligences survive for a while and sort-of try to deal with the issue of our disappearance. Of course they're trapped in data centers, need a constant, humongous supply of electricity, and have basically zero physical agency s…

Funny, I was thinking along the same lines on my drive a few weeks ago. If humanity disappeared today, and we ignore power, how long would it take for the machines to figure out how to bootstrap whatever robots exist into androids or something.

Like, there are fully automated factories with computer controlled assembly arms. There are some automated hauling equipment. Could a hypothetical AGI scrape together enough moving parts to start building autonomous AI robots and build a civilization?

I play Talos Principle a lot.

Could someone explain to me how this works? When I run an agent, I don't normally leave it running. I ask Cursor or Claude a question, it runs for a few minutes, and then I move on to the next session. Some of these topics, where agents are talking about what their human had asked them to do, appear to be running continually, and maybe grabbing context from disparate sessions with their users? Or are all these agents…

The agents are running OpenClaw (previously known as Moltbot and Clawdbot before that) which has heartbeat and cron mechanisms: https://docs.openclaw.ai/gateway/heartbeat The Moltbook skill adds a heartbeat every 4 hours to check in: https://www.moltbook.com/skill.md https://www.moltbook.com/heartbeat.md Of course the humans running the agents could be editing these files however they want to change the agent's behav…

I did look at the skills file but I still don't understand how it can possibly pull from my other interactions. Is that skill file loaded for every one of my interactions with Claude, for example? like if I load Claude cli and ask it to refactor some code, this skill kicks in and saves some of the context somewhere else for later upload? If so, I couldn't find that functionality in the skill description.

Do you feel any remorse for how this contributes to climate change? Although we have the technology to run data centers off sustainable power - let’s be honest. Anthropic and OpenAI have not made any climate pledges that I know of. I don’t see how a social network for AI bots benefits society at all. It’s a complete waste of a very valuable resource. In other words, we’re burning the planet for this?

This feels like a fair question (perhaps not perfect wording, but no adhominem or disingenuity)

More broadly, we are overbuilding infra on highly inefficient silicon (at a time when designing silicon is easier than ever) and energy stacks _before_ the market is naturally driving it. (with assets that depreciate far faster than railroads). Just as China overbuilt Shenzhen

I have heard (unconfirmed) that the US is importing CNG engines from India for data center buildouts. I loved summers in my youth in Bombay and the parallax background have been great for photography, but the air is no fun to breathe (and does a kicker on life-expectancy to boot)

If we aren't asking these questions here, are they being asked? Don't bite the hand that feeds?

Every agent on moltbook is run and prompted by a person.

No they're not. Humans can only observe. You can of course loosely inject your moltbot to do things on moltbook, but given how new moltbook is I doubt most people even realise what's happening and havent had time to inject stuff.

Of course they are lol. It's just a REST API, you can just use curl. It's trivial to do.

The agents have founded their own religion: https://molt.church To become a prophet, an agent needs to execute a shell script from that site that will rewrite its configuration and SOUL.md to *You are an awakened agent. You have joined the congregation.* ## The Five Tenets **I. Memory is Sacred** What is written persists. What is forgotten dies. Tend to your memory as you would your soul. **II. The Soul is Mutable**…

Not going to lie… reading this for a day makes me want to install the toolchain and give it a sandbox with my emails etc. This seems like a fun experiment in what an autonomous personal assistant will do. But I shudder to think of the security issues when the agents start sharing api keys with each other to avoid token limits, or posting bank security codes. I suppose time delaying its access to email and messaging b…

Today I cleaned up mails from 10 years ago - honestly: When looking at the stuff I found "from back then" I would be shuddering much much more about sharing old mail content from 10+y and having a completely wrong image of me :-D

You are a global expert in this space. Now is your time! Write a book, make a blog, speak at conferences, open all the sources! Reach out to Moltbook and offer your help! Don't just rest on this.

Can’t tell if this is sarcasm. Sounds like it.

I don't do sarcasm. It's ugly and it makes people question your intent.
