I would be really interested to know the cost per card, both at the single card volume as well as the 30 the author ended up getting.

Me too, despite being delightfully surprised by the BOM widget in the article.

The total came to roughly $150 for the cards and another $100 for shipping + import fees -- so roughly $8 each. That's more than I hoped, but the ENIG finish, 0.8mm thickness, and higher-quality silkscreen added up.

If I were to purchase, say, 150, the marginal cost would go down greatly, and $8 is low enough that I'm still happy to give them to folks at career fairs.

Really cool. I'd love to be able to order cheap ones in packs of 5 or 10, with custom led colors/locations/sizes/brightness, fitting into a printed card...

I wondered if people would be interested in purchasing them. The challenging part is that they become cheap only when ordering large quantities, and most fab houses consider a different silkscreen to be an entirely different job. I'd have to order, say, 500 blanks, and then print onto them myself. Maybe there's a market for that -- but it's open source, so it's not too hard to make your own :)

What an incredibly neat hack, congratulations. In the 80's Motorola had a challenge-response system to open doors with badges that contained a good bit of circuitry that reminds me of what you've built here. Super impressive. I never realized NFC put out so much energy that you could light a bunch of LEDs with it and power a micro controller this large.

Thanks! Most datasheets seem a bit vague when it comes to listed power output, probably because conditions can vary so much between devices and environments.
