I've never felt the need to query HN before so while this might be entertaining it's not enough for me to create an account. Also on a personal note, even though I know every comment I make is public and indexed etc. etc. I find this kind of creepy. I don't like being part of an AI dataset.

Creepy? Dude. It’s a public forum. Everything you say here is tossed into an enormous (public) BigQuery dataset. I think the real thing happening here is the realization that anything you say on the public internet can be used against you - and that concerns you. This is what you need to come to terms with.

let's set aside the AI questions and just dive back into one of the earliest net problems encountered :
it's not creepy to you to participate in a surveillance culture where everything you do or say is recorded from every angle?
lets add the new angle : It's not creepy to you that every single human interaction is going to flavor and educate a future LLM or bot of some sort in imperceivable ways, and that the collective liability of such a creation is now being shouldered by any and all participants in all of the worlds' discourse?

I think this is a result of the strategy that the AI chose for picking languages. I saw when it was planning what to do it said that it was going to use a regex against the post titles. Probably it only included the specific languages above in that regex. Leaving some languages out. Which should still mean it hopefully has accurate numbers for the languages it chose to look for, but it might be missing several other more or less widely mentioned languages.
If I ask it specifically to count how many Show HN posts mention Lisp or Scheme in the title, it says there’s a total of 370 mentioning one or the other of those.

An absurdly high number of people throw trash on the floor. I actively pick it up or at a minimum don’t contribute to the problem. The answer to “many companies are unethically gathering your data” is not “it’s OK for me to be unethical too”.
Completely agree; I was not justifying any company nor am I saying it is ethical. I'm just saying that regardless of your stance, the dataset has been utilized already.

I don't remember entering into any sort of contract or license agreement with HN (besides the obvious that HN can make zillions of copies of my work to show them to other users). Users have copyright to their posts and comments as expected.
I don’t remember entering into one with Reddit FB, I think it was sort of implied.
We all did when we signed up, or if I suppose. Just not the recent ridiculous data training with no optout changes.

They used the official MIT-licensed dataset published by Y Combinator on BigQuery, so it’s not necessarily fair to blame OP here.
