Ask HN: Im bored with a VPN, what should I do?

I've got a VPN with some P2P stuff running, but I want to see some other stuff I can do. I just wanna tinker around. Advice welcome!

If you've got the financial resources, get yourself a dedicated or virtual private server in the cloud. For cheaper learning opportunities, you could track down a good ssh server that offers a good range of functional linux tools - finding a suitable one is hard but many offer short 7 day periods - long enough to find out if they've got the goods or just some pretend area. (Sadly that happens, possibly unintentionally overselling the limited bandwidth they have.)
