Ask HN: Is the AI research career here to stay relevant and lucrative?

#1
I'm just wondering if this increased demand of AI/ML researchers is here to stay, or is it just a hype bubble.

Wanted to get a POV from the experienced guys, for someone who wants to choose a career that is meaningful, and ofcourse well paying. Personally, I have interest in learning any computer stuff, so the existence of multiple options to specialize in actually makes it hard to choose, because you leave so many interesting stuff. Also, how do people judge early on, which career paths will stay relevant and pay well, or is it just a bit of luck?

It depends on 1 thing only: will any company find a usecase, for which people actually want to, and will pay money? If yes, then it will be a good source of money for a while. Today's bolt-AI-on-everything-and-shove-it-down-the-users-throat mentality can't and won't last forever, however.
