ContractsCounsel | https://www.contractscounsel.com/ | REMOTE (UK, Europe) | Full-time | Python/Django/MySQL/AWS | Senior Full Stack Developer | US$80-$110k

I am the CTO at ContractsCounsel, and we develop an online marketplace to connect lawyers with clients in the US marketplace, and to support them working together on projects. We have a number of exciting opportunities, and therefore need to expand the development team.

I am looking for our first developer, reporting directly to me. We are using Python, Django and MySQL on the back-end, Javascript and jQuery on the front-end, all deployed on AWS. As the first developer in a start-up, you will be involved with all aspects of the development process: specification, development, testing, release, support.

Ideally, the developer would work core-hours of 10-4.30 (UK time), with a brief stand-up at 10 each day. I have grown development teams successfully in previous start-ups, but I am still open to ideas for improvements.

Interview process consists of: short coding test (should take no more than 1 hour); 30-minute remote interview; 60-minute remote interview. I have hired successfully from Hacker News before.

We have ambitious plans to grow quickly in an environment where data is sensitive, so any experience of scaling, security and robustness would be helpful. Any experience of start-ups, legal and/or online marketplaces would also be useful, but is not required.

Please apply by sending your C.V. to me, with a short paragraph about why you would be a good fit for the role. Feel free to contact me with any questions. recruitment AT contractscounsel DOT com

Rising Team | Senior and/or Lead Software Engineer | Remote (USA) | Full time

Want to work at a place where you are understood, supported, and empowered to reach your goals?

We envision a world where everyone works at such a place. If that sounds awesome and if you believe we can successfully help managers do this, it follows that we'd be a great place to work for you.

Our product helps managers with team development by giving them team building sessions in a box that grow deeper connections and improve team effectiveness based on leadership principles such as psychological safety, setting clear expectations, appreciation, and more.

Women and underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

See the full role at https://risingteam.com/careers/senior-software-engineer or email me jeff(at)risingteam(dot)com.

We use Python and React, but you don't need those on your resume if you feel comfortable picking up new languages.

Also, as an experiment, I've been doing career chats and they have been quite rewarding so far. Feel free to reach out if you feel stuck or something's not working for you at work.

Vera C. Rubin Observatory | Senior Software Manager | Pittsburgh or Seattle | Full time

The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), which will be carried out by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, is the flagship ground-based astronomical survey of the 2020s. We are looking for a seasoned and experienced Senior Manager to build and lead a distributed team of software engineers to design and build a cloud-based analysis framework that can store, search, analyze and annotate data of the volume and complexity of the LSST data. This framework will provide an interface for the astronomical community to run real time and batch analyses to, for example, search for one-in-a-million events in continuous streams of data. You will shape, drive and execute this vision and priorities to build one of the first scalable science platforms, possibly with long-term consequences for the future of astronomical software.

LSST will generate the deepest-ever, multi-color, 10-year-long movie of the southern sky, detecting 30 billion stars and galaxies and amassing 100 PB of imaging and catalog data. The scientific reach of the LSST will be extraordinary, addressing questions such as: how did the Solar System form; what governs the birth and death of stars; how does dark matter sculpt the shape of our Galaxy; will an asteroid devastate the Earth in the next century; what is the nature of the dark energy that drives the expansion of our Universe?

The position is available immediately and can be held at either university. You can apply to either the University of Washington or Carnegie Mellon - all applications will be reviewed jointly.
