I am a seasoned (>10 years experience) full-stack principal software engineer and software manager specializing in the backend, platform engineering, internal tools, and data engineering. In addition to strong programming and architectural skills, I'm a force multiplier for any team through the three T's -- teaching, talking, and tooling.

In the past, I've led teams of up to 12, managed interview pipelines, pioneered a number of no- and low-code solutions for all of the following -- stream processing, data model, query generation, form building, workflow systems, and front-end construction -- for a variety of industries, including those with strong regulatory requirements and complex business rules such as healthcare and fintech.

More recently, I've built a workflow engine for coordinating LLMs and other generative AI processes, and on top of this a platform for both minimizing hallucinations and working with documents that are far too large for existing context window outputs using a novel, patent-pending process.

I am also an improvisational pianist and distinguished poet.

I have extensive experience working for and running both startups and software consulting shops, which gives me a unique insight into speaking with customers, translating between engineering and other organizational departments, gathering requirements, and aligning stake-holders across departments. If any of the above seems like a match for you and your organization or project, don't hesitate to reach out.

With over 16 years of experience in developing user interfaces that seamlessly interact with backend data, I am confident that my skills and background make me a strong candidate.

In my most recent roles at Sngular and Acrelec America, I have successfully integrated multiple APIs to create streamlined and user-friendly customer experiences. Prior to that, I spent 14 years as a key member of the Services Development team at Digital River, where I specialized in developing solutions that interfaced SmartChannel with client and third-party APIs, as well as creating reporting interfaces to deliver clear, actionable insights.

My technical expertise includes client-side development using TypeScript, Angular, JavaScript, and various third-party libraries such as Bootstrap, jQuery, Webix, and React. While I have experience with server-side development in PHP, my primary focus has been on creating robust, responsive, and intuitive frontend applications.

Location: Philadelphia

Remote: Remote, hybrid, or onsite

Willing to relocate: No, but can commute as far as NYC or DC (but further commutes should correlate with fewer days in office, e.g., NYC/DC = 1 day per week; Philadelphia Center City = 3-5 days per week; intermediate points = 2-3 days per week)

Technologies: Java and other JVM languages like Scala and Groovy; Javascript/Typescript/Node/HTML/CSS; Python; SQL; Linux/Solaris/bash/C/etc; HTTP and some TCP/IP, DNS, etc; Git; OpenGL/OpenAL; Perl; ColdFusion (really); Docker; Jenkins and so much more. Get me in a room and I can go deep on many of these and how they fit in together, or let me eat leetcode mediums for breakfast. Not scared of real math, real computing hardware, or real users. I've been around the block and can break out of whatever abstraction layer box I need to to make my software work correctly. Experienced and delight in working with people including mentoring juniors, working with users to determine requirements, or maneuvering internal employee and external vendor politics to make things actually happen. In other words, I can be a true senior developer that can do my own project management, product management, devops/SRE, production troubleshooting, and engineering management as needed.

Need a consultant, strategic thinking, architecture or tech advice, coaching/ mentoring or documentation written up?

A hour, a couple of hours or something more regular but flexible?

This would be a side thing but could look to see how much time ongoing would best serve the request. I am looking for part hours, or retainers, or work toward fully moving into a consulting / advisory capacity. — I have 20+ years solving business problems and maximising opportunities through technology in a variety of industries internationally. My core skills are in strategy, enterprise architecture, technology architecture, consulting and advice, agile, team leadership, coaching and mentoring. Can do some operating model work as well. I am currently a Principal Architect. I operate at both the enterprise strategy and solutions level with many years in architecture and technology in the private and public sector. I know how to use enterprise architecture frameworks, practices and principles from concept stage to delivery in order to execute on strategy and how to work with product and development teams to set direction and manage product evolution. TOGAF 9 Certified Enterprise Architect, certified AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate, Scaled Agile SAFe certified architect, and Scrum Master (PSM1) certified. | I am ex-dev. Long list of tech. I don’t write code much anymore but this is changing as I look to build a SaaS. I have honed my architecture skills from designing and building scalable resilient solutions across private sector (process and plant automation, presell, corporate and companies law related, limited banking) and loads in public sector (government, large and complex).

I have a BA in design, and backgrounds in both webdev and design. I'm a different type of problem solver usually, looking at more of the product/visual side, but I've been architecting pure dev solutions too. Some of the coolest clients I've worked for in the recent past - FactSet (fintech), Tatum (blockchain), Lumos (access management). I'm currently not available to start immediately, looking around, I can clear my schedule for full-time work with circa 2months in advance - I can do part time first - soonest I could start full-time from now is November.

Currently supporting a fairly complex kubernetes architecture, but having trouble finding the spark to stay motivated. Game development has always been my true passion. Currently working on a full-scale game entirely in 6502 assembly. I'd enjoy anything in the VR / embedded space.

I'm in no particular rush, just keeping a window open and looking to explore my options. I'm seeking more fulfilling work, the sort of thing I'd be excited to tell my friends and family that I'm doing. I'd rather be paid less to do something I enjoy more.
