I was not satisfied with the health insurance advice available to immigrants, so I paired up with a broker. When my content and my calculator are not enough, they can reach out to this guy and get a recommendation. I monitor him closely and make sure he prioritises honesty over revenue.
The update was a little too successful and I overwhelmed him with new customers. He's now working long hours to cope with the demand, so we have to build infrastructure to streamline things a bit. We need to automate case tracking, document collection, application with insurance companies, that sort of thing.
My actual job is to write useful guides for immigrants [0], and I find insurance quite boring, but the high commissions and high conversion rate make up for the loss in traffic to ChatGPT and Google AI summaries. It also gives me a lot of insight about the insurance industry, which in turn helps me improve the advice on the website. I get clear data about which insurance options work for visa applications.
If all goes well, I can eventually get back to the stuff I care most about: helping people settle in Germany.
