I've got 6+ years of experience doing backend software development mainly using the dotnet stack. 4+ years building backoffice software in a stock exchange/clearing house environment (trading/clearing/settlement/payments/FIX/SWIFT/bank integration, etc.), and 2 years working on the backend of a public transit application.

I'd love to stay within the payments/finance space but I'm a quick learner and open to something new.

I've been building and deploying web apps for ~20 years. The last 10 or so have been more focused on deployment (SRE / platform / pipelines / internal tools / etc.) but I'm constantly programming with whatever I'm working on. I also maintain a bunch of open source projects and am part of Docker's Docker Captains program for the last ~8 years.

I'm looking to work full time and overall enjoy solving problems.

Hello, my name is Jesse.

I'd describe myself as a competent generalist; a lifelong learner. I'm pretty much always working on something I've never done before in the context of one of a handful of long-running side-projects I have.

My most recent professional experience has been about a year at a semiconductor startup where I wrote a functional simulator and a compiler.

One of my side-projects of ~8 years is a 3D game engine. Working on it has taught me a great deal about systems and graphics programming. It runs on Windows, Linux and Web (WASM/WebGL). I chose to build it without any libraries (barring the CRT for startup), which began as a learning exercise, but has taught me the value of simplicity.

In more recent history I've been working on a metaprogramming system for C. Think C++ templates/constexpr, but somewhat more flexible, and with intelligible error messages. It turns out I have a small passion for compilers. I was also recently contributing to Oil, a new bash runtime and POSIX compliant shell.

That's the cliff-notes on my technical background. As a person I'm friendly and easy to get along with. I like the phrase "Have strong opinions, weakly held". Outside of work I enjoy surfing, backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, rock-climbing and beer! I split my time between Canada, Costa Rica, and Mexico.

Cheers,

Jesse

Need help with migrating to nextjs? Looking for a React developer who would be productive from day 1?

Hi. I'm looking for full-time remote roles in a well-funded stable company (I will work in the company's core office hours. 0 issues with timezones. Been working remotely before covid)

Building websites since 2016, working with React since 2018 and have 2 years of production next.js experience

Super comfortable with Next.js, React, Redux (with sagas), tailwind, material ui, styled-components, SEO schemas, AMP, MERN, scalable deployment on GCP/AWS/Vercel, incremental migration and parallel deployment (WordPress blogs, new next.js code and old code working on the same domain)

I value web performance (web vitals) and accessibility and could create high conversion dynamic pages
