Hey! I'm a dev/manager with 10 years of experience. Most recently I was a manager at Oracle and before that a manager at an early stage startup. I quit Oracle year ago and I've been building open source data devtools on my own (github.com/multiprocessio). I've attracted and managed a number of open-source contributors here.

The major project, DataStation, I started last June and now has 1.9k stars, 3000+ downloads, ~500 users per month (and growing), and around 40 pretty active users per month (and growing). It was on the front of HN for a bit yesterday as a Show HN. An offshoot CLI, dsq, has 1.9k stars and somewhere around 2000 downloads.

Separately, I write a lot about implementing and evaluating databases, compilers, emulators and so on at notes.eatonphil.com.

A number of my personal and Multiprocess blog posts have been on the front of HN, 9 this year to date. 10 in total last year.

I'm considering heading back to full time employment at a late stage startup or public company. I'm not yet sure if I'd like to go back as a manager or IC. Both have their appeals. I'd most like going to a dev tools, database, or software/internet infrastructure company.

I'm also open to contract work or part-time work at smaller companies. And definitely interested in anything along the lines of compilers or databases.

Thanks for reading my tome and checking out my projects and writing!

I'm a full stack software engineer looking for new opportunities. My latest work involved developing Sentinel, an open source, self-hosted, platform as a service with built in support for canary deployments. I'm proud of leading the design of Sentinel's core architecture which was designed to be deployed in any cloud provider. This involved automating the provisioning of compute instances and their configuration details with Terraform and Ansible. I also played a significant role in other parts of the Sentinel platform including:

- the implementation Docker Swarm Mode for managing applications deployed on the platform

- designing a RESTful API

- developing a command line interface written in TypeScript.

You can read more about the project here: https://sentinel-paas.github.io/

I've been programming as a hobby for ~6 years, mostly in functional python. I've also explored both Common Lisp and Elixir enough to be fairly comfortable in either. I've worked on a large number of projects over the years; I am currently going through and updating some of these projects for public consumption. They will be referenced at https://holdnack.net/portfolio.html

I'm at a transitionary period of my life, and I'm looking for a more purpose-driven role. I'm looking for a company that is solving hard problems that need to be solved. I'm not the one that necessarily wants to solve these hard problems, but I want to support the real problem solvers of our day and age. What kind of problems need to be solved? The following:

- Unifying quantum mechanics with general relativity

- World: poverty, hunger, peace

- Climate change

- Plastic pollution

- Advancing medicine

You might get the gist, maybe you can come up with a few that I haven't mentioned :-) I'm looking for a place where I can support the people that are able to solve them or solve part of it. For example, if Tesla would want to hire me then I'd work there (climate change). If Brilliant.org would hire me to make their physics education better, I'd work there (higher probability for unifying QM with GM). If some prosthetics lab would hire me to advance prosthetics, I'd work there. Hell, I'd even work for a trading/HFT firm as long as I know that 5% of the profits go to one of these goals. I'd even work for an oil firm, as long as I can help them create a business that allows to transition one away from it.
