Bootstrapped and profitable tech company looking to grow to the next level seeks VP of Engineering to drive that growth. For our level of maturity (in VC terms we’d be series B), our engineering team is very underdeveloped (more like seed), so this role will have ample freedom to define the future of the organization.

We have very strong product/market fit (fanatical userbase) with really good traction and growth, and our tech is an essential differentiator for that. We operate in a space with very high essential complexity, which makes the engineering challenging and interesting (e.g., we have a custom programming language with 2 interpreters, a type checker, and SMT verification).

This role will be the senior-most member of the engineering org, reporting directly to the founder/CEO (me). You’ll be in charge of building out the rest of the team, making high-level technical decisions, establishing the culture and processes to ensure effective collaboration, etc.

Tech stack = Typescript (node, react) + Python (Django) + Postgres on AWS. Operational complexity is low, but application complexity is high.

*Ideal candidate*

- You’ve helped grow a startup from the very early days (first couple of employees) to the next milestone (10-20+ engineers)

- You have experience working with and managing engineers remotely, including hiring, developing, and retaining the team

- You’re smart but humble and curious , and you’re a nice person that people enjoy working with and for

- You care more about building a product sustainably and effectively than using the latest shiny tech or getting funded by $ELITE_VC

- If you’ve been at FAANG or similar, you’re aware that you’re going to have to help create all the scaffolding from ~scratch

- You’re excited about better work/life balance than your previous startup, but still want to drive an ambitious growth plan

What we expect from you:

  * 3+ years of Front-End engineering experience.
