Background: Staff-level full-stack engineer (13 YoE), both product and research. PhD in quantum computing/machine learning, applications in computational biology. MS in bioinformatics, applications to cancer genomics. I’m also the founding engineer behind June Dating (0-to-1). Our founding team bootstrapped the company to profitability, we’re currently on a product development hiatus. For my day job, I work in Rust and am building a data watermarking system for a flagship NIH consortium centered on ethical AI and FAIR data, currently around 160M files watermarked (1.9PB of data).

Open to: Founding engineer, staff/senior-staff engineer, and engineering manager roles. Industry/domain agnostic. I do especially well in high ownership and high impact roles.

Hands-on Tech Lead / Senior Full-Stack Engineer (TypeScript, React, Angular, Next.js, NestJS) with 9+ years of experience across EU/US startups and enterprises (fintech, e-commerce, KYC, green-tech). Frontend/UI-strong but full-stack capable. Led small teams, set technical direction, and built products end-to-end – including AI-enabled SaaS. Thrive in async-first, remote environments, comfortable overlapping with EST hours.

Technologies: Python (FastAPI, Flask, asyncio, pandas), JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Linux, Docker, Bash, REST API design, LLM integration (Anthropic API, local Ollama), prompt engineering, agentic workflows. Daily Claude Code user.

Graduating CS (B.A., CU Denver, May 2026) with an unusual mix: 2.5 years production engineering at a university accessibility center (solo-deployed and maintained a Koha library system at 99.9% uptime for 200+ users), and 7 years prior as an RBT working with nonverbal children with various disabilities. The behavioral background is real domain expertise, not a footnote - I think about reinforcement, observation, and pattern recognition the same way I think about ML.

Side project: Aurora, an autonomous AI artist that orchestrates 26 locally-hosted LLMs through a Python pipeline with persistent memory, dream consolidation, and emotion modeling. Live at aurora.elijah-sylar.com — 1,500+ sessions, 38,000+ logged events, real research, not a tutorial.

Looking for remote work in AI tooling, automation, internal tools, support engineering, or anywhere a builder with deep customer empathy and real Python chops can ship things end-to-end. Comfortable in the queue, comfortable in the codebase, prefer roles where those overlap.

I was laid off by Cisco Meraki last summer, where I spent four years as a technical lead for the cloud side of the wireless products.

I have worked for years in open source software development. I created and ran two notable open source projects: Lita, a ChatOps framework for Ruby (https://github.com/litaio/lita) which is used by many companies for automating internal operations and workflows, and Ruma, an implementation of the Matrix protocol in Rust (https://ruma.dev/) which went on to become the basis for the official Rust SDK for Matrix.

I’m a Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer with about 8 years focused on infrastructure, and a 15 year background in PHP before that. I’ve spent time on both the application and infrastructure sides of production systems, which helps when debugging or designing changes. Over the years I’ve moved deeper into cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and reliability work - mostly trying to eliminate recurring failure points instead of layering on quick fixes. I care a lot about long-term system health and building platforms that stay stable as they grow.
