SEEKING WORK | NYC Area | Remote

My name is Tavi, and I run a software consultancy focused on oncology. My clients include startups, biotech companies and foundations. I previously led several immuno-oncology research projects at Mount Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Before that, I led a small engineering team at Salesforce.

I advise on software and data strategy (particularly genomic and clinical data), build genomic data processing pipelines, develop web apps for e.g. clinical data analysis, and so on.

I'm eager to chat with anyone working on cancer or other devastating diseases.

SEEKING WORK | SF Bay Area or REMOTE

Technologies: Ruby, Python, Scala, Javascript, TypeScript, Haskell, Go, Vue, React, Postgres, Cassandra, Kafka, Samza, and Spark

You are: pushing the boundaries of what can be done programmatically with words, text, phonemes, image generation, or music (or an analogous domain dealing with sequences such as bioinformatics or finance) and need an individual who is capable of high-level strategic contributions, can align stake-holders across all areas of the business, is a strong technical architect, can grow and mentor an engineering organization, and is actively involved in the code.

I am: a pianist, writer, teacher, and engineering leader with a wholistic focus on business needs and a love for creative problem-solving. Over the last decade I've designed, architected, built, maintained, and trained replacements to own:

    - query generators for navigating medical databases where errors are measured in lives lost
    - constraint-based systems for music composition
    - low- and no-code platforms for form generation, UIs
    - event-sourced streaming systems
    - dependency managers for build systems and large-scale machine learning workflows

I excel in: engineering strategy, growing and mentoring engineering teams, and breaking down complex technical and operational issues in a manner that is sensitive to both organizational incentives and feasibility.

I have a special knack for: finding creative solutions to problems you didn't know you had.

Email me at my HN username at gmail if you're interested in discussing further.

I am also available for team training workshops on functional programming in most all of the languages listed above.

MorphMarket.com | Senior React Developer | Remote | Full-time | Contract | https://www.morphmarket.com I'm the founder of MorphMarket.com. We are an online marketplace that connects breeders and keepers of lizards, geckos, snakes, frogs, spiders and other captive-bred pets. Launched in 2015, we are the largest reptile-related website in the world with over 5,000 active sellers in North America and Europe on any given day. Our users passionately love the least loved animals.

We are looking to add another experienced React front-end developer to our fully remote team. Having become the leader in buying & selling, we are expanding our services for this industry.

Our backend is implemented in Python, of course. We use Django/Postgres/Redis with a front-end of React for new development. These new pages are replacing our older JQuery/Javascript/Bootstrap pages. As a FE dev, you could think of yourself as a Python handler. :)~

Check out our recent work in this demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNrGkf20NPc

Key skills: React, React Native, Typescript, Javascript, SCSS, Bootstrap, JQuery. Good knowledge of webpack, flexbox, debugging, browser caching, performance profiling, web performance fundamentals. Pragmatic: ability to balance quality and speed. Nice to have: Apple App Store & Google Play experience, AWS services like S3 and Lambda.

There are 8-10 people on our product team. We collaborate with Github and Slack. We are a bootstrapped family-owned startup, with strong revenues and growth. As a developer myself, I try to keep things fun and interesting for the team.

Initial engagement is at least two months of full-time contract work possibly extending much longer. Most working hours should be during US timezones.

Please contact us at jobs@morphmarket.com with a statement of interest, relevant qualifications/experience, and billing rate. Thanks!

SEEKING WORK - REMOTE

Building a startup as a non-technical founder is like playing on hard mode.

You've got no shortage of vision, but you can't build that vision yourself. Getting it built means entering the world of Nerds.

As someone who doesn't speak the language of Tech, interfacing with that world can be exhausting. You can spend hours digesting the jargon & buzzwords. But that's time you could spend doing what matters most to any founder:

Growing your business.

I help non-technical founders manage their tech so they can focus on growth.

If you’re going to succeed as a non-technical founder, you need someone who can help you navigate the world of Nerds. Someone who can take your vision and turn it into something designers & developers can execute. A team of Nerds who helps you lean into your strengths as a non-technical founder, letting you focus on your business while they stack the bricks.

You can learn more about that team at https://NoNerds.com

Here's what our clients say about us:

“We’ve got more done in the last 4 hours than Sam and I have achieved in the past couple of weeks.” - Eric Menna, cofounder https://getloper.com

“We’ve had ideas flowing for so many months—now that we finally get to put them on paper it feels good.” - Mason Still, cofounder https://theblueverse.com

“Going back to the overall process, I am really enjoying it and and think that its 100% with the cost. Now that we're in it I can't imagine how it could've gone any other way." - Sachin Gulaya, CEO https://alpinevapor.com/
