I am an applied mathematician and writer looking for remote consulting opportunities.

My academic background is in three-dimensional models of the Sun's magnetic atmosphere, but I've spent the last decade writing about, talking about and tutoring maths, while raising a family and consulting when possible. There are few things I enjoy more than taking a problem, breaking it down into manageable chunks, and solving them — then explaining what I did so others can repeat it.

Generalist with experience in fullstack web, backend, devops, networking, embedded, open source.

From experience I know I can work well if honestly motivated by the goal, so I am only looking for roles that have a quantifiable positive societal impact and are not related to fintech, blockchain, web analytics, adtech, fashion, esports, ecommerce.

I prefer cool tech and open source, but I know the end result is more important than the tools used to get there. I love to learn about new domains. Part-time is ok.

Location: Europe

Remote: only remote

Willing to relocate: No

Technologies: Can work in Python, JavaScript, C, Go, Rust, Java. Linux only.

Résumé/CV: on demand

I am a SWE with 1 year of professional experience doing machine learning and computer vision at an indoor vertical farming startup. I have a BS in CS, and an MS in CS, focused on deep learning. I am looking for ML roles, or backend/data eng. roles to support ML teams. I am also looking for a company with a strong culture of SWE mentorship, as my current employer hasn't had the resources to mentor me. I love programming and building things, you can see some of my passion projects at https://zachbellay.com/projects/ .
