McLaren College | Mumbai, India | Online Teacher | Full-time | REMOTE

"Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to come with me and change the world?"

-- Steve Jobs to Pepsi CEO John Sculley, 1983

Join us on our mission to change the world! McLaren College is an online school designed to identify and train people in poor countries for software engineering careers who otherwise would not have such an opportunity. We do not charge any up-front fees for our course; our fees are charged as a percentage of a student's income after they graduate (or complete at least 60% of the course). We enrolled our first batch of students for our Flutter and React programming course in September 2019 and are currently preparing our next batch of students for a MERN-stack course.

If you have a passion for programming and helping others, please consider applying for our teaching assistant role: https://mclarencollege.in/jobs/online-teaching-assistant.htm...

Send your CV to jobs@mclarencollege.in including the role you are applying for and let us know how you heard about the role (ie. on HN).

NoRedInk | Full-Stack and Site Reliability Engineers | San Francisco, CA | REMOTE Pacific Time (PST) to Central European Time (CET)

We’re a growing ed-tech company on a mission to help all students become better writers! NoRedInk is used by 1 in 2 school districts in the US, and students have answered over 5 billion questions on our platform. If you're looking to join a team of friendly people who listen to and learn from each other, discuss past mistakes openly as we adapt to the challenges that come with progress, all while realizing our mission, then you'll be excited to learn more about us.

Our colleagues span six time zones, California to Berlin and points in between, with lively discourse flowing freely across Slack, Zoom, and the office when we're able to be there. Wherever we're working from, we've always deligted in our work to ship new features—beginning with our curriculum and product teams, designers, through to testing by our dedicated quality assurance folks—that put teachers and students first. [1]

Our engineering team [2] takes prides in producing innovative, maintainable software. We use the cutting-edge Elm programming language for all our front-end development. Our back-end is primarily Ruby on Rails, though we're actively moving toward Haskell services as we scale to keep up with our traffic. We use Amazon AWS for our infrastructure configured with Chef and OpsWorks, though we're migrating towards orchestration using Kubernetes. We write a lot of tests, and use Jenkins for continuous integration. We've also developed and maintain several useful open-source projects. [3] You can read about our experiences with these technologies on our team blog. [4]

We’re looking for engineers who want to work on a mission that makes a difference and who are the type of collaborators that value kindness and open-mindedness. If that's you, you can learn more about our interview process [5] and on-boarding experience [6], and you should definitely apply through our jobs page! [7]

Oort | Senior Software Engineer | Remote | Full-time | https://www.oort.io/senior-swe

Oort is a venture-backed security and infrastructure startup based in Boston. We recently closed our seed funding round led by 645 Ventures and Bain Capital Ventures, and as such, we're expanding our engineering team.

We're building the Oort Cloud: a global platform for delivering decentralized security services from thousands of sites around the world. If you're interested in distributed computing systems, networking, security, or just building robust microservices, we have no shortage of problems to solve in each of these domains.

The Senior Software Engineer is a generalist role. In this role you'll be:

* joining a small tight-knit team of six smart engineers

* reporting directly to the Founder & CEO

* designing and implementing a core set of microservices hosted on GCP

* writing software primarily in golang, with some typescript and python or bash scripting on the side

* deploying your code to Kubernetes and working with our DevOps lead to automate your deployments

Whether you're at a big company currently and looking to make the leap into a startup role or a startup veteran looking for something interesting and new, Oort is at a stage where you will have an outsized impact on the trajectory of the company.

Email us at jobs at oort dot io to apply or ask for more information, we're happy to chat.
