Man Group Alpha Tech | Quant Python Engineer | London, UK | Onsite | Full Time

As a Quant Python Engineer in Alpha Tech at Man you will be building the tools, frameworks, libraries and applications which power our Quantitative Research and Systematic Trading. This includes responsibility for the continued success of “Raptor”, our in-house Quant Platform, next generation Data Engineering, and evolution of our production Trading System as we continually expand the markets and types of assets we trade, and the styles in which we trade them. Your challenges will be varied and might involve building new high performance data acquisition and processing pipelines, cluster-computing solutions, numerical algorithms, position management systems, visualisation and reporting tools, operational user interfaces, continuous build systems and other developer productivity tools.

Our systems are almost all running on Linux and most of our code is in Python, with the full scientific stack: numpy, scipy, pandas, scikit-learn to name a few of the libraries we use extensively. We implement the systems that require the highest data throughput in Java. For storage, we rely heavily on MongoDB and Oracle.

We use Airflow for workflow management, Kafka for data pipelines, Bitbucket for source control, Jenkins for continuous integration, Grafana + Prometheus for metrics collection, ELK for log shipping and monitoring, Docker for containerisation, OpenStack for our private cloud, Ansible for architecture automation, and Slack for internal communication. But our technology list is never static: we constantly evaluate new tools and libraries.

Alpha Tech has a small company, no-attitude feel. It is flat structured, open, transparent and collaborative, and you will have plenty of opportunity to grow and have enormous impact on what we do. We are actively engaged with the broader technology community.

o We host and sponsor London’s PyData and Machine Learning Meetups o We open-source some of our technology. See https://github.com/man-group o We regularly talk at leading industry conferences, and tweet about relevant technology and how we’re using it. See @manquanttech

Essential Skills o Exceptional technology skills; recognised by your peers as an expert in your domain o A proponent of strong collaborative software engineering techniques and methods: agile development, continuous integration, code review, unit testing, refactoring and related approaches o Expert knowledge in one or more programming languages, preferably Python, Java and/or C/C++ o Proficient on Linux platforms with knowledge of various scripting languages o Strong knowledge of one or more relevant database technologies e.g. Oracle, MongoDB o Proficient with a range of open source frameworks and development tools e.g. NumPy/SciPy/Pandas, Pyramid, AngularJS, React o Familiarity with a variety of programming styles (e.g. OO, functional) and in-depth knowledge of design patterns.

If you're interested, please get in touch with Milly Parrott milly.parrott@man.com

Qualcomm | Hyderabad, India | Full Time | ONSITE | QEMU

My team is looking to hire a software developer to help us design and extend QEMU support [1] for the Hexagon DSP [2]. We're looking for candidates who have experience coding in C, C++ or Rust* and who aren't afraid of rolling up their sleeves and poring over disassembled code. This particular architecture is a bit more challenging than most, because it's a bit unique. It's a VLIW [3], so it's a great opportunity to learn about an interesting architecture. Millions of Hexagon DSPs are out there, most are found in Snapdragon SoCs for Android phones and more!

We collaborate a lot with Open Source communities like QEMU, LLVM [4], the Linux kernel [5], and more. I love being able to work on Open Source software at my day job.

You can contact me directly (email addr is in my HN user link). If you don't have experience with QEMU - don't worry! Most of us didn't have any experience with it until recently, too.

The rest of the team you'd work with lives mostly in EU, US.

* Rust experience may serve the role well but we don’t (yet) have any product software in Rust.

Earlier quoted context omitted.

OK to ignore the cover letter/essay part and just send over the cv? (at least for those who are happily employed already :))

This will not work I am afraid, as we are looking for people with concrete ideas and not so much experience or pedigree... we can teach languages, methodologies, etc, but we cannot teach ideas and that is what we are looking for... So please do not bother as it will not past trough our friendly HR AI...

To clarify, I'm asking about engineering positions, where it is mentioned that the domain (i.e. finance/trading?) knowledge is not required. So what ideas are you looking for? Thanks!

PostHog | Remote GMT -8 to +2 | (i) Technical Writer (ii) Senior Developer | Full Time | Salaries all visible at posthog.com/handbook/compensation (location-dependent)

https://posthog.com - see handbook at posthog.com/handbook

Open source, 6x rev growth last year, heading for profitability soon, well paid experienced team of 37 today, 25k customers across free + paid products, 65k developers in community, 0 outbound sales - all inbound growth. Didn't raise a 2021 overpriced round - real (potential!) upside.

* Technical writer *

Looking to hire a developer who loves to write. We aim for each piece we produce to be the best on the internet for that topic.

Content marketing is huge for us - writing deep technical content is what we want! You'd be on our (small) marketing team, making a huge impact.

Previous blogging (especially personal/interesting!) and a few years of development experience needed.

If interested, james at posthog.com and charles at posthog.com for a chat.

* Full stack developer *

We are looking for someone to build the next generation of our analytics backbone. You'll be working on ClickHouse and Python to make sure all our queries are web scale and users are happy.

You will (probably) help us build HogQL https://github.com/PostHog/meta/issues/86 (our own wrapper around ClickHouse SQL), or whatever else you think makes sense to prioritize. We work in small teams of up to 6, and you'll have a lot of trust to pick what to work on.

You need experience building high performance data systems, must be an expert at Django with deep SQL/database skills. Ideally, but optionally, you'd have worked in a high growth SaaS company / analytics product and have extensive experience with TypeScript-based React. We need someone ideally that has both worked in a very scrappy / early stage way _and_ ideally has seen a company scale.

This work will potentially extend into providing a full warehouse to our customers. It's a chance to work on the next Snowflake, but open source and product led, working with new companies from day 1 and staying with them as they scale - so get here in the first 40 employees before we are 100x the size.

If interested, james at posthog.com + careers at posthog.com and please mention you saw us on HN.
