MyTutor | Senior Software Engineer | London, UK | Full-Time | Remote (UK, EU) or On-site | https://www.mytutor.co.uk

MyTutor is the UK’s leading online platform for one-to-one learning, and we're on a mission to improve the educational outcomes of millions of young people. We’re building a future where access to high quality learning is stress-free for those who can afford it, and funded for those who can't.

We’re looking for senior software engineers across our Product Engineering team to help us create a scalable components/apps/microservices based architecture. Being curious about and comfortable with complex code transition is essential to this role, as is being reasonably language agnostic. An interest in Javascript towards the front end or Java towards the back end wouldn’t be out of place though!

Our current tech stack is a Java/SQL backend hosted in AWS, with Spring Boot and Kafka also in play. Our front end is transitioning to React.js. We operate in multi-disciplinary agile squads, each owning their own part of the feature set. We've invested a lot of effort in making sure our squads can operate nimbly and own their own destiny and have a modern CI/CD pipeline.

Hi! Randomly scrolling here but I read your compensation page in the handbook [1] and have a question: Since compensations are set by/in coordination with the candidates, but are not shared with others, how do you avoid systematic bias? IIRC studies show pretty clearly that e.g. women (for whatever reasons, but let's not go there) systematically negotiate for lower salaries. Do you have processes to at least monitor…

To still answer you on this -- we don't differentiate in the hiring or compensation process between men and women, but I review the numbers from time to time. And we don't actually seem to have any issue with this, without any specific effort.

That makes me wonder what the results of studies based on processes closer to ours would say. Our numbers are not large enough to be representative, but one unique aspect of our compensation process is that it doesn't have _any_ human decision element for a specific application, thus there is no possibility of gender bias on our side in the determination of compensation. There is still the self-bias on the candidate side, but I wonder if it is helping, to know that there won't be a judgement of worth, only the application of a predetermined rule that applies identically to everyone.

And thanks for the kudos, I'm glad you appreciate the concepts -- we put a lot of heart in it. :)

REMOTE | Senior Fullstack JavaScript Developers | Annex Distribution.

Write code with visible and appreciable impact at our seed-stage startup. Help us connect locally produced food with locally owned retail. Build customer-facing products and internal tools. Join our small team to create well-tested, version-controlled, continuously-delivered microservices, web apps, modern Shopify themes, and more.

Annex Market and its counterpart, Annex Distribution, were founded at the close of 2019. We’re building bridges to market for local food, and boast a sizable portfolio of both Makers & Retailers that continues to grow rapidly. Our platform spans eCommerce channels, a delivery/logistics network, and at least one customer-facing SaaS product.

These are a fully remote positions; our small distributed team of developers works from anywhere. We write ES6+ JavaScript (TS for new projects) and use Babel / Webpack to compile/transpile to our deploy targets. React components for front-end, and often using the Next.js framework & Node.js on AWS for backend services. Organization-wise, we run a light version of SCRUM which is becoming more codified over time. Our issue tracker and product backlog is regularly-refined.

If you're good on the following bullet points, and have an entrepreneurial attitude, we'd love to hear from you. (Email your resume & an short inline cover letter to jobs@annex.dev)

- 5+ years writing JS for both browser and cloud contexts. - Have configured build tools and/or code pipelines before. - Can write modular code with testability in mind - Writes a great description of issues, and merge/pull requests. - Familiar with a structured collaboration approach like git-flow - 2+ years experience writing React code. - Shopify theme building experience - Familiarity with a "serverless" paradigm.

The application process starts with a quick phone screener. Then, a short async technical challenge (< 1h) + synchronous follow-up, before a final interview with our CEO.

ProcedureFlow | Frontend Developer (React), Full Stack .NET Developer | REMOTE in Eastern Canada | Full-Time | https://procedureflow.com

ProcedureFlow is a platform for your company's procedures inspired by the way you work. We're like GitHub but for visual procedures. We have change requests, everyone can have a "draft" branch, a side-by-side diff view of the flows, etc.

ProcedureFlow has customers that consider us vital to their business and day-to-day operations. We have ambitious goals and need your help. We've grown 600% in the last 4 years, we've more than doubled our revenue and staff in the last year, and we're about to close over $10 million in funding.

Top 3 complex problems we're working on solving:

  1. GitHub for visual procedures; versioning a knowledge graph.
  2. Adding a public API for flows, event data, and critical features like SCIM.
  3. Bridging the gap between documentation, execution, maintenance, and insight of a process; adding an automation capabilities to static knowledge.
Our technology stack includes: React, C#, Postgres, Redis, Node, Terraform and AWS.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Experience building cloud-based web apps in C# or React.
  • Experience as a generalist working on both the frontend, backend, and anything it takes to solve problems and delight users.
  • Pride in working on projects to successful completion involving a wide variety of technologies and systems.
  • The ability to stitch together many different services and processes together even if they have not worked with them before.
  • Empathy with their users and are stewards of crafting great experiences.
  • Skills for upholding best practices in engineering, security, and design.
We try to make our technical interview process very practical and fair. We want to understand your skills and get a sense of what it's like to work together. For example, we don't use LeetCode, whiteboarding, ask you to recite an algorithms, etc.

Check out our engineering blog for more insights into our culture: https://medium.com/procedureflow-engineering

Interested? Send us your resume, GitHub profile, or anything you'd like to showcase: https://jobs.procedureflow.com/o/senior-developer-full-stack...

I'm a co-founder and the VP of Engineering. Happy to answer any questions!

We're like GitHub but for visual procedures. We have change requests, everyone can have a "draft" branch, a side-by-side diff view of the flows, etc. ProcedureFlow has customers that consider us…

Here's some extra info about us:

ProcedureFlow is not your typical flowchart tool. We took the good parts, like the visual map, and fixed all the bad things:

  • The "editing" experience is secondary. Viewing and navigating the flows is the priority.
  • We democratize your company's procedures. The flows are meant to be used and improved by everyone at your company.
  • We only have so many shapes that can be added. You don't just drag/drop a "rectangle" and make it purple. You add an "action" shape that has semantics.
  • We recommend making smaller flows and linking them together rather than one big flowchart understood by a few people.
Here's some recent blog posts about our Engineering team:

- How we do software engineering: https://medium.com/procedureflow-engineering/how-we-do-softw...

- Building our API: https://medium.com/procedureflow-engineering/building-api-au...

We offer:

  • Competitive salary
  • Autonomous remote work and working with a team that cares about what we're building.
  • Optional 4-day work week (four 10-hour days).
  • Stock options signing bonus. Topped off based on individual/company performance and each funding round.
  • RRSP matching up to 4%.
  • Vacation: 3 weeks minimum. We're very flexible with additional time off (errands, family time, appointments, etc).
  • 11 paid holidays
  • Professional development budget ~$2K/year (courses, training, events, etc)
  • Good benefits plan. ProcedureFlow pays health and dental premiums.
  • Good work life balance. We don’t crunch or work regular overtime – deadlines are owned by us. Rare overtime like after hours maintenance means compensated time off.
  • An opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a fast growing Canadian startup. You’ll be very key to our success -- helping us grow the team into a well-oiled machine. Being an early employee means you have the possibility to grow into larger roles as the company grows (engineering IC, management, specialization, etc).
