Hi. I'm Mark, a full stack developer with a particular passion for front-end tooling and distributed systems. My experience covers 15 years of building software professionally and I've worked across sectors including research, arts+culture, finance and even electrical infrastructure. Some recent projects include citizen-science platforms, digital publications, collection digitisation, custom DAMS, and search interfaces.
I'm currently freelancing and open to new work. Also happy to chat about full-time or part-time positions.

#53Hi, I made the hard choice to leave SF but not California. Attaining a piece of land and gardening/farming/automating/selling agriculture/data solutions is the name of the game. Cost of living is dirt cheap here, don't let my location scare you on price; I'll work for $16/hr for the first 90 days doing anything you need and not charging for time spent studying documentation and whatnot. I make slightly less at my retail job which would support a family if I consistently got scheduled for 40 hour weeks (tho 25 can float me alone).
I've shipped for employers using most of the major contemporary ecosystems from Clojure to Node to Java to PHP, using containers, using idempotent playbooks, you name it. I learn fast, I've seen so much that there isn't much to learn for new things. 20+ years since age 14, college in my mid-20s for CS.
I'm aiming at general freelance clients with stacks like what I'm experienced in/can deliver w/o risk, but also in co-founder discovery mode and open to co-founder proposals especially if we're serving local agriculture clients.
You may email viahn@harlanji.com if you'd like to connect, some code samples are on GitHub harlanji/dev-practice--sorry no LinkedIn or Facebook.
Thanks for reading.

#58I have more than 7 years of experience with Python/Django and worked with many tools/technologies/libraries related to it (Vue/Vuex, pytest, various CI/CD tools, docker, htmx, websockets etc). I love to dive into odd bugs and optimizing slow queries/functions. I am a big fan of testing and documenting.
I maintain a few applications for clients (as the sole developer), but can also work well within a team.
