I get the frustration, but comments like this break the rules at the top of the thread, so I've detached this one from https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44159575 . I know that some companies do this and I agree that the ones that do it, shouldn't. The trouble is that it's not possible to fairly assess these cases in a format like this.

Removing job posts older than 3 months would be a great starting point, given the current state of the job market.

+1

plus hard evidence to moderators showing hiring in prior months if someone really needs an exception

Co–Star Astrology | Haskell Developer | Full-time | NYC or Remote (US) | $152k-$205k + equity + benefits

Every 3 seconds, someone downloads Co–Star. We’ve reached 30% of 18–25 year olds in the US without spending a dime on marketing.

We use astrology to get at something deeper: how people reflect/connect in a chaotic, atomized world. The horoscopes are generated by a custom stack that mixes functional programming and AI with real human poets and astrologers.

You’d be writing Haskell, building ML infra, and scaling data pipelines.

We’re a small team that cares about systems design, poetry, psychoanalysis, and doing things in a principled way. We also care about profitability and efficiency, because they keep us alive.

If you’re into weird problems at the intersection of tech and culture, come help us build some cool shit.

Questions: hal@costarastrology.com - I'm Hal, I manage the backend.

I'm interested in learning more, but the majority of my experience is in elixir and python. Would that prohibit any conversation?

I personally value elixir experience more than haskell (not affiliated) as elixir means you have used lots of practical libraries. (I have professional experience with six FP langs)

Applied.

PermitFlow (YC W22) | Staff, Fullstack & Frontend Software Engineers | New York, NY | ONSITE | Full-time | https://permitflow.com

PermitFlow’s mission is to streamline and simplify construction permitting in the $1.6 trillion United States construction market. Our software reduces time to permit, supporting permitting end-to-end including permit research, application preparation, submission, and monitoring.

We’ve raised a $31m Series A led by Kleiner Perkins with participation from Initialized Capital, Y Combinator, Felicis Ventures, Altos Ventures, and the founders and executives from Zillow, PlanGrid, Thumbtack, Bluebeam, Uber, Procore, and more.

Permitting is a challenging yet interesting problem; thousands of municipalities across the United States have their own processes and requirements - many which are continually updating. Software, AI, and LLMs provide an exciting opportunity for us to reason at scale and distill a nuanced and localized permitting process into a standard and streamlined experience for our customers.

We're looking for customer-obsessed, ambitious, and hard-working teammates who are excited about solving a real-world problem with technology at its helm.
