Re: Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (February 2025)
#442I'm a specialized generalist and voracious learner who solves problems at the intersection of people and technology. Whether it's helping friends achieve life goals or helping organizations tackle technical challenges.
Some examples:
For friends (and HN'ers), I've helped solve social, dating and housing challenges - among other things.
For organizations, I'm capable of creating games for growth hacking, have developed a unique collaborative web app for artists, coached a lead engineer in social skills, and modernizing team workflows with AI/LLM integration [5].
I own my projects end to end by collaborating with product owners to shape vision rather than just executing tasks. While most of my experience is rooted in building, I thrive when given the freedom to innovate and problem-solve holistically and make a tangible difference.

[0] Due to prior experience and transferable skills[1] I'd need help from a senior as it has too many ways to shoot yourself in the foot
[2] Books I've read: Sinclair & Natenberg
[3] I know how that sounds but anyone that understands what I'm saying and follows it get the results they want. Nowadays, I'm married
[4] hackthebox.eu is a fun place

I'm a Product Manager turned Coder, I had a strong stint as a PM for 7+ years, at my last company (YC S21) I scaled the DAU from 10k to 250k+ & MAU to 1 million+.
Now I'm looking to get to the fundamentals of building. That's why I have been learning backend development for the past 1 year, you can view my resume for more details on my coding projects and my achievements from 7+ years of PM career.
Can bring a good balance of user centric mindset to feature development. Since I'm sort of rebooting my career here, I'm looking at SD-1 level roles at the moment. Would love to chat about this.

Summary: I've got around 17 years of experience building products and leading teams. I've been in the trenches doing the scrappy MVP work and scaled things up to handle serious traffic - we're talking thousands of requests per second. I've been on both sides of that fence and know what it takes at each stage.

Curious, how did you get this contract?! I'd love a retro game dev gig like this. I have projects on RHDN on several different retro consoles and processors (6502 / Z80 / 65C816) and can work my way around WLA and the Mesen debugger with the best of 'em! Also did you come up with a famicom audio expansion chip yourself? That's amazing!
The expansion audio thing does indeed work on Famicom natively! For NES we plan to ship a small adapter to plug into the otherwise unused EXP port on the bottom of the frontloading console. A single resistor can bridge one of the cartridge pins to Audio Out, unlocking expansion audio for folks in the US. Works great!
