We thought about that kind of concept in the early stages. We may eventually experiment with it, but not at the moment. It's a very cool concept indeed. And yes, we mechanically rotate a large magnet, creating a unique magnetic field that allows us to track all 6DOF with a single sensor via our proprietary algorithm. No triangulation is needed.

Thank you for the answers! Many years ago, in university, I made a magnetic compass without using ready-made chips. This topic brings back memories for me. This year, I’ll definitely experiment in my free time, as a hobby, trying to bend the magnetic field. :-)

Yeah what who knows Haskell, C++, Python, TS, WebGL, React and CUDA (already an impressive list) then just as a hobbyist uses hyper converged storage systems runs databases and uses nix? I hope covering all of this isn’t a serious expectation, should probably reword if it’s not

We do not require to have experience with all tech listed, but the more of it one is familiar with, the faster onboarding will be.

For example, our last hire knew Haskell/Python/TS/React well, and got into C++ in our project.

And of course the list helps people decide if they would enjoy working with our stack.

They claim remote, however they really mean HYBRID.

Their application states:

It kind of seems disingenuous to claim "Remote in United States" but really mean "within 50 miles of Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, or Seattle"

Are there alternatives to the "take home exercise"?

I've had several bad experiences with those where I waste dozens of hours of my own time only to be rejected or have to decline the offer shortly afterwards.

So now I pretty much don't apply anywhere that uses take home projects in the interview process.

I very much understand your sentiment. Unfortunately we haven't found any other functional way to achieve the same goal.

I am not sure about other firms, but we personally look for how the candidate thinks about the problem more than anything. Did they handle exceptions well. Are they focusing on efficiency, readability, speed, or?

We found out that from a simple assignment that shouldn't take more than 30 min, we learn more than sitting with the person for hours. Plus they can do at their own pace without someone breathing down on their neck.
