Phrasing.app | Co-founder / Founding Engineer | REMOTE (EUROPE ONLY) | Elixir

Phrasing is a language learning application optimized for learning and maintaining multiple languages, and designed to take you all the way to fluency and beyond. It the professional language learning application for serious learners.

It's built with Elixir on the backend, and ClojureScript on the front end. I did try to avoid such an esoteric tech stack, but functional programming and immutable data are just too good.

I'm looking for someone to come in and take over the Elixir backend for a few main reasons:

1. I long ago hit the limit of what one engineer can do

2. I need to focus on customer facing issues for the foreseeable future, and don't want progress to stop on the backend

3. I need someone to collaborate with, if not just to discuss technical details

I'm trying to do something different with Phrasing, on both a product and a company level. I'm personally tired of the rampant enshittification of the entire web, and miss the magic of the early internet. I'm trying to make a massive product, built by a tiny team of people doing the best work of their lives.

I've got a product and some extremely happy (paying users, but this is a very early stage startup. Anyone who joins now would be paid in revenue share (of which there is some) and equity, and should be willing to put in a lot of work and take a fair amount of risk. You need to be passionate about your craft, interested enough in language learning to dogfood the product, and crazy enough to believe you can change the world.

If you're interested, please send me a well written email to hn@phrasing.app. Low effort applications will be ignored. The first step of the interview process is a 60 minute interview, so if your application does not make me say "hell yes" then it will likely be rejected.

Rootly | AI-native on-call & incident response (Slack/Teams) | REMOTE (US/Canada/Europe); optional hubs SF & Toronto We build the end-to-end platform that helps SRE/eng teams detect, manage, and learn from incidents faster—trusted by 1000+ companies (logos include Glean, Mistral, Figma, LinkedIn, Dropbox, Replit, Grammarly, etc.). Roles: - AI Engineer - Senior Security Engineer - Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Se…

You should probably flag that of these roles, the only one listed as Remote on your Careers page is the Technical PMM (and the Product Engineer is Hybrid), 12 roles, 10 of which are in office, is not really "Remote".

Yeah, I agree. If more than half of your offerings are in-office that flag is misleading at best, and I think I actively looked at the positions last month and had the same gripes.

Not gonna lie, this is the kind of work that makes the internet the hostile place that it is today :(

Many community members agree with you about this, of course, but it's still off topic in this thread (please see the rules at the top). We detached this comment from https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46109127 .

My apologies - I realize this was also impolite, not just off topic.

Common Prefix – Software Engineers / Auditors – Greece – Remote – Full-Time

Common Prefix is a science-first blockchain consulting company. Our vision is to make blockchains usable for mainstream users and everyday people – paying at the supermarket, remittances, moving money across borders, saving, investing – and solving the real problems of usability, scalability, and interoperability that come with it.

We're a 30-person team, half scientists (cryptographer PhDs, post-docs, and professors) from renowned universities, half engineers with long web2 experience. A lot of our field is broken and we're trying to make a small contribution in fixing it, by introducing provable security and proper engineering practices across the board.

What we're looking for: Software engineers who can solve problems, are smart, get things done, and enjoy working on the bleeding edge, learning about cryptography, and working from first-principles. Auditors who can write and read code, especially low-level cryptographic implementation code (zero knowledge verifiers, signature schemes, etc), consensus (PoW, PoS), or smart contracts (everything DeFi).

Tech stack: Doesn't matter, we'll teach you. But we work mostly with Rust.

Open roles:

* Software Engineer, https://commonprefix.notion.site/sw-folk

* Auditor, https://commonprefix.notion.site/auditing-folk

We offer:

- $80,000–$160,000 / year cash

- Local from Athens, Greece, or remote, preferably in Europe

- Conference participation in exciting scientific and engineering venues, 2-3 times per year

- The opportunity to work and learn from world-class scientists from major universities in the field of blockchains, cryptography, and consensus

If you're interested in joining our team, apply here: https://commonprefix.notion.site/2b7bf672de828051b53cdd37811...
