Hi all - I’m a former healthcare VC that’s working through a CS master’s degree at Penn with the ultimate goal of jumping into an engineering role. I'm scheduled to graduate in December 2023 and am looking for a full-time software engineering role starting January 2024.

I’ve interned as a SWE at Liberty Mutual, working on critical customer communication infrastructure (SMS, email, push) built in Typescript on AWS serverless architecture. This summer, I've redesigned one of our core services (archiving emails for legal compliance) to run 67% faster and have added highly-requested features to our SMS platform. Last year, I interned as a SWE with a data privacy startup called Kanary (an opportunity that was found here on HN!).

As a VC at Echo Health Ventures prior to grad school, I invested in healthcare delivery businesses like Dispatch Health, Genome Medical, Heartbeat Health, and TytoCare. I helped these businesses find product/market fit, scale operations into new markets and channels, and optimize their financial planning / fundraising. Before joining Echo I was a healthcare investment banker at J.P. Morgan.

Most of my experience thus far has been on the backend, and that's where my preference lies, but open to any/all opportunities to work on interesting problems.

My dream position:

- Business impact: always a business case to improve things with lower latency, higher availability, better scalability, lower operational costs. What some businesses really need is just a static webpage in Cloudfront: I want more.

- Corporate structure: a result-driven company that welcomes innovation.

- Technical mindset: bottom-up tech design, right tool for the right job. Client-oriented design. Revenue-oriented, it should matter from day 0. No abstraction is better than bad abstraction. Let free patterns emerge from organic growth.

- Technical landscape: data-intensive systems that can be relied upon, with strong business-relevant needs for performance, reliability, durability, and resilience.

- Team dynamics: engineers have and share areas of responsibility. No echo chamber or ivory-tower architect. We should all be collectively accountable for systems architecture.

Technologies: I'm a backend/SRE and low-level coder type: Python, C, Rust, Golang, Haskell, AWS, Terraform. I've worked with all layers of the stack but I'm at my strongest in this stuff.

I also know some Machine Learning engineering: I know PyTorch, and I've implemented some recurrent neural network implementations in AVX2+Rust code, and hand-written gradient calculations for them. I also made a LLaMA implementation from scratch. I've followed the open source movement on AI and know most of the developments that have been going on. (Links to projects in the CV)

I'm a software engineer of around 7 years of experience, although I've been coding since a young age. My professional experience is in AdTech and I worked at Pinterest doing some billing pipeline work.

I'm looking for work that is interesting in some way, either in the coding department or the product is something unique. Or in an area I'm less familiar with: e.g. mobile development so I can learn.

For example, if you are doing something like err let's say: writing compilers, embedded coding, machine learning engineering stuff, research projects, teaching, FinTech. Or e.g. Haskell or a Rust job because they seem something very rarely hired for.
