I've seen this posting many times over the last year. This role seems like it would be very desirable for a large portion of the HN crowd, so I am curious: are you having difficulty filling a single role, or are you continuously growing the team?

I'm curious about this, and also how hard of a requirement C++ experience is.

They don't list C++ on the page. Do you mean C? You will need C experience:

> Strong C language skills. Compilers, linkers, macros and function pointers don't scare you.

Clever | Remote (US) or San Francisco, CA | Full-time

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer for our Infrastructure team: https://clever.com/about/careers/senior-software-engineer-in...

Clever is a platform used by more than 65% of schools in the US to streamline access to technology in the classroom, making it easier for students and teachers to log in (SSO etc) as well as for teachers and school staff to set up accounts and resources for their students.

The Infra team is similar to what you might see as Platform or DevOps team: we build software (in Go) so that other engineering teams can deploy production-ready services without focusing too much on the details.

The company is remote but we do have an office in SF for people who prefer office work-style.

I didn't see it explicitly called out — do you hire remote workers in Canada (particularly on the Pacific side?)

Isn't the worry here that Google is going to head in this same direction? (hasn't there been some indication that they are moving in this direction?)

They can try to keep up :) We have two major advantages: 1. We can use best-in-class AI tech, from any vendor (ie. OpenAI) -- whereas Google is only going to use their internal tech 2. We can take lots of UX risk when designing the perfect UI for an AI email client. Gmail has to be much more cautious given it's such a core, old, massive product.

> They can try to keep up :)

I like this attitude. I'd also need to see something truly compelling and exciting in the Google sphere to bother with their products and features at all anymore. The graveyard is too huge not to hesitate.

Saildrone | Multiple Roles | Onsite/Remote (US Only) | SF Bay Area (Alameda) | Full-Time | https://www.saildrone.com/

Saildrone is the world's leading collector of ocean related in situ data via uncrewed vehicle, above and below the sea surface. We work with governments, civic agencies, foundations, universities, and private companies around the globe to drive better information about our oceans and seas - be it sailing drones into the eye of hurricanes to obtain new scientific storm data, mapping out the ocean floor, collecting new CO2 data in hard-to-reach areas, counting biomass to establish fishing quotas, or detecting and stopping illegal fishing and drug trafficking.

Maybe you saw that we hucked a drone into a category 4 hurricane[1] last fall or again this year [2]. Or maybe that we've raised a $100M series C[3]. Or maybe you didn't see any of that, but you're still intrigued by the idea of autonomous, long endurance sailboats that help us better understand our planet.

Whatever the case, we're hiring for a breadth of different positions across our organization. In software, we're hiring for Firmware, Embedded, DevOps, and Platform Engineers. Stacks vary from team to team, but we're looking primarily for folks with backgrounds in C++, Python, and/or JavaScript (Node, TypeScript, React). We're remote-friendly for certain positions, though require folks to be onsite for others.

In addition to software engineers, we're also hiring for a bunch of other positions across the company in production/manufacturing, hardware engineering, and more!

You can see a list of open positions on our career page: https://www.saildrone.com/careers

Please apply through our career page; be sure to select "Other" and specify this HN post when asked how you heard about us!
