Learning is much easier now. For example, on college level math texts sometimes you get stuck on a problem and aren't sure what you're missing. You could hire a tutor, go to office hours if you're still a uni student, or fumble on mathoverflow hoping for a solution, or wait 5 business days for a questionable response.. but now LLM's can help solve most problems up to the college level.

It’s completely revitalized the group text I have with my siblings: seemingly every week, there are novel and extremely stupid uses of LLMs for us to discuss. For instance, earlier this month my sister spent hours posting entertaining excerpts from the Reddit forum where people discuss their AI “girlfriends/boyfriends,” which were some of the funniest things I’ve read in recent memory. Overall, it’s been a great topic that we can set aside our differences and bond over.

As to whether it’s worth the cost, societally probably not, but there’s not much I can personally do about that so I try not to think about it too much.

For me, LLMs didn’t solve any groundbreaking problems, but they’ve been helpful in those small, frequent moments of getting stuck. When I’m blocked in writing or struggling to organize my thoughts, they help me get a rough draft out quickly, which I can then refine. That kind of subtle but steady support has made my daily work flow a lot smoother.

Research mode of chatgpt is pretty amazing. I used to have to go research new equipment to buy and it would take me hours. Now I can just set chatgpt to the task and it it gives me a list of high quality products to research a little further manually and fact check them.

A correct diagnosis in the context of autoimmune disease. Turned out my severe cognitive symptoms were unrelated to the (until then undiagnosed) autoimmune disease I do, turns out, have

GPT5 did the differentials for the complex mishmash of autoimmune symptoms, found the unrelated cause for the cognitive stuff. The cognitive symptoms do match autoimmune diseases too - lupus and MS - but it split them out and discovered a cause anyway

My neurologist ran tests reasoned out purely by GPT5, agreed they made sense. They were the right tests to do

It also interpreted my ~50 blood tests correctly. Oh also my contrast MRI images

Unrelatedly, it made a loved one's bipolar I a non-issue (yeah really). They live a perfectly ordinary life
