I am finishing my PhD (electrical engineering) in fault-tolerant control using reinforcement- and transfer- learning. My research combines classical control theory with advances in artificial intelligence. I apply my work to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and smart buildings. Specifically, how to re-use existing machine-learned knowledge on a related task to solve it fast.

Looking for research/engineering roles in industry in or adjacent to machine learning and controls.

Hello, my name is Jesse. I'm looking to solve hard technical problems. Examples of fields that interest me are genetics, developer tooling (compilers and static analyzers really get me going), 3D graphics, data streaming.

I'm a competent C and C++ programmer. The C++ spec weighs a lot, so I'm hesitant to call myself an expert, but I have a good working knowledge of both languages. I've recently been writing a C++11-ish compiler frontend so I'm pretty familiar with that portion of the compilation pipeline.

I've also been working on the foundations of a 3D game engine for ~6 years, which has taught me a great deal about systems and graphics programming. It compiles on both Windows and Linux. I chose to build it without libraries (Handmade Hero style) which began as a learning exercise, but ended up teaching me the value of simplicity.

I've also done a significant amount of web development, having started my career as a web-dev. I would consider joining a web development shop with a compelling team and product.

In more recent history I've been working on a metaprogramming system for C. Think C++ templates, but fast to compile and much more powerful. It turns out I have a passion for compilers. I'm also actively contributing to Oil, a new bash runtime and POSIX compliant shell.

Lastly, I'm a systems programmer at heart. I love having direct access to the CPU and needing to understand the hardware architecture, as opposed to the internals of an interpreter, to write well-working and well-performing code. I strive to understand the core of what I'm working on.

That's the cliff-notes on my technical background. As a person I'm friendly and easy to get along with. I like the phrase "Have strong opinions, weakly held". Outside of work I enjoy surfing, backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, rock-climbing and beer! I split my time between Revelstoke, Canada and Costa Rica.

Things I'd be interested in: developer tools, embedded development/low-level work, compilers, building frameworks, reverse engineering, security, machine learning.

I've done everything up and down the stack from low-level assembly up to massive web-scale work. Most recently I was a director of engineering at FullStory, focused on a mobile analytics product that I built from zero, wrote patents for, and hired up a team to take over. I'm looking more at low-level work right now at a small company with good culture.

I'm also happy to discuss any other interesting opportunities, especially if they come with difficult and interesting problems.

I'm an SRE / Tech lead / infrastructure goblin covered in scars from discovering many of the sharp edges of AWS and distributed systems over the years. I've worked in both the enterprise and startup-land, having spent the last several years in SaaS, helping orgs scale from thousands to billions of requests per day with tech, process, and engineering leadership.

Right now I'm most interested in the climate tech sector, but am happy to learn about any role with potentially positive social and/or ecological impact.

Hey there. I have 9 years of experience front to back (JS -> Elixir) shipping internal and client facing web apps. In devops, I have deployed and maintained complex systems on five continents (so far), in highly regulated environments and for high profile clients. I am looking for part time / contractual work only.

I am currently completing an MA in Social Justice, so I'll screen for projects that do not burn the planet down or make people's lives miserable. Thanks :)
