I am a software engineer specializing in Python backends, but have demonstrated ability using whatever technology necessary to best solve the problem at hand. I have experience working both on-site and on a remote-only basis. My current role involves software architecture/design decisions, PoC prototyping, DevOps, improving developer tooling, and general purpose programming. Available for part-time or full-time contracts.

I'm a full-stack developer with 7+ years of experience in startups trenches.

Here are the biggest projects I've worked on + a single feature that demonstrates my impact on product and/or technical chops :

Fanfest – fanfest.vip - Community engagement platform for soccer fans. Built a browser-based live streaming engine that lets streamers broadcast directly from their browsers in both 16:9 and 9:16 at 1080p (and lower resolutions), with simultaneous streaming to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram, and X.com.

Pequity – pequity.com - Compensation management platform for mid-to-large organizations. Built V2 for offer approval chains, reducing complexity and fixing HUGE performance issues. For example, in the worst case scenarion in V1 for a single request it would take 2 minutes to finish. In V2 it's 970ms.

Haekka – haekka.com - Security and compliance training integrated with workplace tools. Developed a system for automatically assigning users training based on non-compliant events like exporting sensitive keys they did in AWS/Slack/Gmail.

Flox – flox.app - App facilitating social connections by helping friend groups meet. Used Postgis to build an algorithm for auto check-in system for event attendance.

19 YOE designing, testing, building, operating, and automating networks. From tiny 3 PoP mini ISP networks, to thousands of PoPs and tens of thousands of devices, and multi-continent global routing; I’ve worked on a wide range of networks over the years. I attend and speak at conferences, engage in the IETF, and help to organise industry events.

Back in the days the automation side was all Perl/BASH/Expect, for the last 5 years it’s been all Python and Ansible. My spare time projects were in C, now I’m using Rust.

I’ve most recently been working on network architecture, BGP analysis, and product development, but I love all areas of networking. My current role requires that I be pulled in to help fighting operational fires almost constantly with no sign of improving, despite my efforts to improve things, I’m not adding value here any more so time to move on.
