Airtable's mission is to democratize software creation by enabling anyone to build tools that meet their unique needs. Unlike single-purpose apps, we think of Airtable as a toolkit of building blocks that people repurpose to create their own applications. The best-known part of our product is a real-time, collaborative database, but we have layered automations and user-defined interfaces on top of that foundation, enabling our users to create full-fledged applications on our platform.
Many of the challenging engineering problems at Airtable stem from the surprising scale and complexity of the databases that our users build. To address this problem, we recently shipped an ambitious change to our client-server architecture which loads less data into the client at runtime; this required some deep investigation into corner cases of our synchronization protocol. We're hiring software engineers for web (JavaScript + TypeScript, Node, React), iOS (Objective-C, Swift), and Android (Java, Kotlin), as well as data engineering, data science, SRE, and many other roles.
